Optimal Route Selection of Offshore Pipelines Subjected to Submarine Landslides

چکیده

Background: Offshore lifelines ( i.e ., pipelines and cables) are usually vulnerable to seabed deformations induced by earthquake-triggered geohazards, such as submarine landslides, soil liquefaction, tectonic faulting. Since the complete avoidance of all areas characterized offshore geohazards is not always techno-economically feasible, optimal lifeline route selection deemed necessary for safety serviceability every infrastructure, in order minimize risk severe environmental economic consequences. Objective: The current study presents a decision-support tool design high-pressure gas pipelines, capable performing: (a) assessment landslides along possible pipeline impact force landslide width), (b) their potential on strains), (c) selection. Methods: advanced capabilities GIS successfully combined with efficient (semi-)analytical models that realistically assess response when subjected axial or oblique loading conditions due landslide. Results: efficiency smart presented through case an crossing potentially unstable slopes -under static seismic conditions- Adriatic Sea. Five alternative routings proposed based adopted criteria seismically zones steep inclination. Conclusion: Provided sufficient reliable data available, developed can be efficiently used deriving pipeline.

Submarine landslides: processes, triggers and hazard prediction.

Huge landslides, mobilizing hundreds to thousands of km(3) of sediment and rock are ubiquitous in submarine settings ranging from the steepest volcanic island slopes to the gentlest muddy slopes of submarine deltas. Here, we summarize current knowledge of such landslides and the problems of assessing their hazard potential. The major hazards related to submarine landslides include destruction o...

Mechanisms of tsunami generation by submarine landslides: a short review

Wave formation and propagation due to submarine landslides are complex phenomena that may be divided into four parts: Landslide dynamics, energy transfer from landslide motion to water motion, wave propagation in open water, and wave run-up along the shores. This paper focuses on the energy transfer from landslide motion to water motion, i.e. the generation of tsunamis by submarine landslides.

Optimal Configuration for BGP Route Selection

An Internet Service Provider must provide transit service for traffic between its customers and its providers and, at the same time, attempt to minimize network utilization and balance traffic according to the capacities of its border routers. Central to the selection of border routers for transit traffic flows is the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) between Autonomous Systems peers, through which...

Hydroacoustic investigationof submarine landslides at West Mata volcano, Lau Basin

Submarine landslides are an important process in volcano growth yet are rarely observed and poorly understood. We show that landslides occur frequently in association with the eruption of West Mata volcano in the NE Lau Basin. These events are identifiable in hydroacoustic data recorded between ~5 and 20 km from the volcano and may be recognized in spectrograms by the weak and strong powers at ...

Influence of Anchoring on Burial Depth of Submarine Pipelines

Since the beginning of the twenty-first century, there has been widespread construction of submarine oil-gas transmission pipelines due to an increase in offshore oil exploration. Vessel anchoring operations are causing more damage to submarine pipelines due to shipping transportation also increasing. Therefore, it is essential that the influence of anchoring on the required burial depth of sub...
